Byron “BJ” Weekly worked briefly at TKWM in the summer of 1955 as a weaver.
Byron “BJ” was born 25 Sep 1936, in Salem, Oregon, to Johnnie and Goldie Weekly and one of three boys in the family alongside Ransom and Louis. In 1940, the Weekly family lived in the Hayesville area north of Salem where BJ’s father worked for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. The connection would later bring BJ to TKWM himself, where he briefly worked as a weaver during the summer of 1955.
On 5 June 1959, BJ married Lucy Dale Nixon. Together they raised two daughters, Tracey and Jeri. BJ served in the United States Marine Corps for over two decades, stationed in Tustin, El Toro, and Yuma. He flew numerous missions during the Vietnam War and carried immense pride in his military service.
After retiring from the Marines, BJ and Lucy settled in Apple Valley, California, where they lived for 34 years. Known for his warm spirit, BJ became the beloved “family greeter” at Denny’s restaurant, continuing to serve his community in his own way.
Wife Lucy passed away in 2020. BJ followed on 22 Jan 2023, at the age of 86. He was laid to rest with honors at Riverside National Cemetery. |
