According to Claggett family legend, these dolls came over the Oregon Trail, protected in a barrel of flour.  2009.080.0009.  They are part of a collection of Claggett family memorabilia (2009.080) recently cataloged by our volunteer Ray.  Some of the highlights of the collection include a photograph of the first graduating class of the Oregon State Police (of which Ben Claggett was a member) as well as correspondence of Ben Claggett in his capacity as Oregon’s first Game Warden.  Of particular note is a draft proposal dated 1937 suggesting the creation of a wildlife reserve in downtown Salem.
