Food Preservation

Living in the agriculturally rich Mid-Willamette Valley, at home food preservation has been an essential part of our heritage for many generations. Join instructors from Oregon State University’s Extension Service to participate in food preservation classes at the Willamette Heritage Center. Each food preservation class focuses on a different method such as canning, fermenting, freezing, and more.

The Willamette Heritage Center cares for a number of 19th century buildings that were once constructed by hand without the luxury of power tools.

Our woodworking classes teach you about the tools and woodworking methods used during the 19th and 20th century. Often you will use wood from one of our centuries old oak trees, as well as other wood species. Classes are individually arranged with the instructor.

The Willamette Heritage Center and Salem Fiberarts Guild – is pleased to offer two weaving classes fit for all skill levels. Our weaving class include up to four days during one month of one-on-one instruction and are typically held on Thursdays. Weaving students can expect to start class in 1 – 3 months after registration is complete and is subject to availability.
