Life Story

Everett Weekly worked briefly for TKWM in June 1938, in the Picker House. His father Preston, Uncle John, and brother Wade also worked for the mill.

Everett W. Weekly was born 6 June 1915, in Shelbyville, Missouri; Everett was one of five children of Preston and Virgie (Mason) Weekly. After the death of his mother in 1929, Everett and his siblings – Wade, Kenneth, and Lola – lived with their father on a farm in Black Creek, Missouri. The family soon prepared to relocate to Oregon.

By 1935, Everett had moved to Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, and in March 1936, he enlisted in the U.S. Army alongside other young men from Salem, Oregon. His service took him toward the Philippine Islands, as noted in local news reports. Following the death of his father in 1938, Everett briefly worked at the Thomas Kay Woolen mill in Salem, likely through family connections, before returning to Nebraska.

On 16 Oct 1939, Everett married Betty J. Seiver in Scotts Bluff. They had two sons, Dean and Roger. The family later moved to Sacramento, California, where Everett worked as a painter at a Civilian Conservation Corps camp. Tragically, their infant son Roger died in Dec 1943 while the family was living in Coburg, Oregon.

After divorcing Betty in 1946, Everett married Otsie Robb. By 1950, they lived in Washington County, Oregon with daughters Joyce and Rosemary. Everett worked as an engine fireman and later as an engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1975. The couple settled in Salem in 1951.

Otsie passed away in April 1984 after a long career coordinating volunteer services at Hillcrest School. Everett died on November 22, 1989, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 74. He was laid to rest at Belcrest Memorial Park.
