The Fall 2011 issue of the Oregon Historical Quarterly featured two articles on Mid-Willamette Valley History.

Shawash Iliʔi Kǝnim Ikanum (Grand Ronde Canoe Story) by David G. Lewis tells the story of the Grand Ronde Canoe Journey Exhibit that was on display at the Willamette Heritage Center April 8-May 30, 2011.  The exhibit led to the transfer of the canoe back to the Tribes that was celebrated last week.

Okinawa 1945: Monroe Sweetland and American Prisoners of War by William G. Robbins, features a discussion of a manuscript by Salem born Monroe Sweetland (1910-2006) currently part of the Oregon Historical Society’s collections.
