The headline refers to the Gallipoli Campaign. The battle began at the end of April, 1915 and lasted until the first week of January, 1916. The battle can only be described as a monumental act of stupidity, hubris, or ignorance. It was a defining moment in the history of modern Turkey and a major allied failure. Desperate for any victory after the stalemate on the Western front, the campaign was the brainchild of Winston Churchill. In Australia and New Zealand, Anzac Day, April 25th, is more important than Remembrance Day (our Veterans’ Day), the 11th of November.
