(1929-1934)

Minnie Lora Wood was born in Kansas on 24 June 1888. By 1900, she had moved with her family to Salem.  Starting at age 19, she worked at TKWM for about two years (1907-1908), then left to become a servant to a local family.  On 1 Aug 1911, Minnie married Holsey (Holtsey) R. Miles.

Holsey and Minnie were married sixteen years and had three children.  Holsey partnered with his brother in a livery business in Turner where the family lived.  He later became the town marshal but sadly passed away in May 1925.

As a single mother, Minnie had to make a living so, she moved the family to Salem in 1926 and returned to her former position as a spooler at TKWM.  She lived at 1549 Bellevue St.

On 16 Sep 1927, Minnie married Oliver A. Apple and continued to work at TKWM until 1932 when she left to be a full-time homemaker.  Oliver was a woodworker/cabinet maker and over the years, worked both on his own and for woodworking firms in Salem. For a short time around 1940, Oliver operated a confectionary store in Salem.  However, that venture soon failed.

With the start of WW2, Minnie saw an opportunity to supplement the family income, so she returned to TKWM as a spooler.  She worked there in 1942 and possibly for some period either side of that year.  She left with the downturn in wartime orders and resulting lack of work.

Oliver and Minnie lived happily in Salem for many more years, enjoying their children and grandchildren.   Minnie passed away in October 1952 and is buried as Minnie Miles next to her first husband Holsey in City View Cemetery.  Oliver lived on until May 1967 and is also buried in City View.
