The Willamette Heritage Center invites submission of manuscripts for publication for the second issue of its bi-annual publication Willamette Valley Voices: Connecting Generations, scheduled for December 2012/January 2013. The publication’s mission is to provide a showcase for scholarly writing pertaining to History and Heritage in the Mid-Valley. Its purpose is to promote historical scholarship focused on the communities of the area.

The theme for the second issue is “community celebrations.” Examples of celebrations include, but are not limited to parades, festivals, rodeos, Powwows and annual memorial services. Celebrations must pertain to the Mid-Willamette Valley.
Articles should be both scholarly and understandable to a broad readership, and based on original research of a documentary, analytical or interpretive nature. Abstracts will be accepted through Friday, September 21st and should be a maximum of 200 words. If accepted for publication, final papers are due Friday, November 16th and should be between 3,000 and 9,000 words in length, with Chicago Style footnotes. All articles must be an original work and not previously published.

Annually, the Willamette Heritage Center will offer two awards for the best Graduate Student contributions to Willamette Valley Voices. The winners of the WHC award for the Best Graduate Student article will be announced at the WHC’s Annual Meeting each February. For 2012, the awards are $100 each (students must be enrolled graduate students at the time their Willamette Valley Voice’s article was submitted to be eligible.)
