August Carl Lehman was born on January 17, 1868 in Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. He married Anna Marie Wilhelmine Roewer on August 5, 1893 in Berlin, Germany. They immigrated to America in 1893 and made their way to Salem, Oregon to work in the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill.

Seven children were born to them in Salem, over the span of 15 years: Carl August, Fred, Fritz William, Ella, Otto H, Herman R, and Dora. The family bought a home on Oxford Street not far from the woolen mill.

August died on November 24, 1936 in Salem at the age of 68. He is buried in Belcrest Memorial Park.

Survived by widow, Anna Lehman of Salem, two daughters, Mrs. Ella Clearwater of Salem and Mrs. Dora Barnes of Salem; five sons, Carl, Fred, William, Otto, and Herman Lehman, all of Salem; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Clough-Barrick company Friday, Nov. 27, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Belcrest Memorial Park.
