Field Trip Experiences

Old School Oregon

Everything about this field trip is Old School, and that’s a good thing! What was life like for children living in the Willamette Valley during the mid-to-late 1800s?

Students will explore this question by traveling back in time to attend school in the 1858 Pleasant Grove Church. Miss Jane, our living history interpreter, presides as schoolmarm, teaching her pupils with a McGuffey Reader in hand – old school style!

Attendance Cap: 20 Students

Archeology: More Than Rocks!

Archaeology More Than Rocks as children collectively unearth history and science. By working a miniature dig site and engaging with a variety of authentic and replica artifacts, students will use the scientific method to develop their conclusions about what they discover. By incorporating field and research methods, they will gain valuable insights about people, culture, and history.

Attendance Cap: 28 Students

The Fab Lab

The Fab Lab examines all-things fabric and explores the transformation of textiles. The impact of the industrial revolution on the wool industry and the advent of synthetics will be discussed. Students will view various plant and animal fibers under a microscope, discover different dying methods, and gain an appreciation for the many processes used to convert fibers into fabulous fabrics.

Attendance Cap: 28 Students

The Kalapuya

The Kalapuya people have lived in the Willamette Valley since time immemorial. Students will engage in hands-on activities exploring seasonal lifeways. They will investigate how the Kalapuya community was impacted by waves of Euro-American explorers, fur trappers, missionaries, and Oregon Trail immigrants.
