Bill Kingston worked for TKWM from 1915 through 1945.
William Richard Kingston was born in McCoy, Polk County, OR on 6 May 1881 to Paul and Emma Kingston. He spent the majority of his life in the greater Salem area. He married Maude Walters in 1908 in Vancouver, WA. Their son William Kingston was born in 1909 in Portland, OR.
By 1915, Bill and Maud had moved back to Salem and Bill started work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill, as a laborer. Soon after, he became a finisher – a job he held for the rest of his time at TKWM. They first rented at 817 S 21st but by 1930, they owned a home at 940 S 21st.
Bill and Maude had a second son James L Kingston in 1910 and daughter Marguerite (Minnie) was born in 1917. Sadly, in 1921 James died from a bacterial infection.
Bill continued at TKWM until his retirement in1945. He and Maude continued to live at their 21st Street home until Maude’s death in 1960 followed by Bill’s passing on 11 Dec1964 at age 82. They are buried in City View Cemetery alongside sons James and William. |
