(1929-1934) 

Clara M Steininger was born in 1888 in Missouri to John and Annie Steininger. John was a farmer born in Germany (Austria) and Annie was born in France. The family later moved to a working farm near Scotts Mills, OR where Clara grew up.  

In 1907, when Clara was 19, she married Alvin H Wolf, who farmed near North Santiam and was twice Clara’s age. By 1920 the couple owned a farm near Stayton and had one son and three daughters. In 1924, when her youngest child was 10, Clara began work as a finisher at the Santiam Woolen Mill. Four years later, the couple gave up on farming and moved to Salem. John found work with OP and Co. and Clara began work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. 

By 1932, it looks like Alvin, then age 68, left the workforce while Clara continued working at TKWM as a specker, burler then a seamstress. All the children left the home between 1930 and 1940. By 1935, Clara and Alvin settled in a small house at 1342 Waller St. Alvin died on 28 Mar 1945. Clara continued to work until her retirement in 1954, at age 66. She lived in the same house on Waller St. Until her death on 7 Sep 1966. Clara and Alvin are buried together at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.
