Life Story Clarence Earl Jantze/Jantzi was born in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska on January 9, 1900 to Jonas and Lovina/Lavina/Loving Jantze.  His father was a Canadian-born farmer and Clarence worked on the farm until relocating to Oregon in his early 20s.  He married fellow Nebraskan Mary Riley in Portland.  He worked in Lane County as a logger until relocating to a farm in Macleay (just outside of Salem) before 1935.

While mill records show Jantze worked for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mills for over a decade starting February 1946, that fact isn’t mentioned in his obituary nor in the 1950 Census, where he continues to list his primary occupation as farmer.
