Glenna Jayes worked as a weaver for TKWM for a brief time in the early 1930s.
Glenna Bressler was born 17 Nov 1894 in Eola, OR to Joseph Permert and Frances Elizabeth Matheny Bressler. She was one of seven children born to the couple. Her first marriage, to John J. Jayes took place in Livesley on 5 Mar 1913. Her profession at the time was listed as housekeeper. Two children were born to this marriage, Alden, and Geneva. Her husband John deserted the family and Glenna obtained a divorce 12 Dec 1925.
To support her children, she took work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. It was here that she met her second husband Carl Lehman. Prior to their marriage she left work at TKWM to become a licensed practical nurse for Deaconness Hospital (later Salem Hospital). The couple married 27 Dec 1935 in Salem. In 1939 the couple moved to California for Carl’s health. It was here that he died suddenly from a heart attack on 26 Mar 1940. His body was returned to Salem for burial in Belcrest Memorial Park.
After his death Glenna returned to Oregon and took a job working at Mast Hospital in Myrtle Point. She was a member of the Chadwick Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married again on 17 Sep 1965 to Allan T. Fletcher in Tillamook. Glenna died at age 91 on 22 Feb 1986 in Salem, OR. She was buried in Belcrest Memorial Park. |
