Life Story 

 

 

Mary Raveaux worked in the Spinning Department at TKWM from Apr 1906-Feb 1907. Her siblings Paul, Louis, and Rose also worked at the Mill. 

Mary Rose Raveaux was born 12 Dec 1890 in South Dakota. She was one of five children born to Leopold and Mary Ann [Laurence] Raveaux, French immigrants. The family came to Salem in the 1880s.  Mary received an 8th grade education at Catholic school in Salem. Then she found work with her siblings at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. She met her future husband Herbert Bean in the at the Mill, he worked in the weaving department. 

Following the death of father Leopold in 1909, the Raveaux family moved to Portland and sought work. Mary married Herbert Bean in August 1911 in Portland, OR. They returned to Salem where Herbert worked for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill and lived at 1340 Ferry St. Shortly after WWI the Bean family moved to Portland for work. Herbert took iron working jobs in the building industry and during WW2 worked in the Oregon shipyards. Mary found work as a cook in restaurants. 

Herbert died 30 May 1945 in Portland. In 1949, Mary married Edward L. Pearson in Vancouver, WA. Mary died 22 Aug 1958 in Salem Hospital after a week of illness. At the time of death she lived at 2536 NE Seventh Ave. in Portland. Her death was the result of cervical cancer. She was buried in Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, OR.
