Myrtle worked for TKWM in the finishing department from 1908-1909. Sisters May and Laura also worked for TKWM.
Myrtle McAllister was born 21 Jan 1885 to parents John M and Melinda [Townsend] McAllister. She was one of eleven children born to the couple. She attended public school in Salem thru the 8th grade.
Myrtle M. McAllister married Carl C. Wolz in the home of her parents, southeast of the city on 29 Aug 1907. The newspaper reported at the time “bride is a popular Marion county girl, while Mr. Wolz, who is employed at the Steusloff Market has many friends in Salem.” After a few days in Portland for a honeymoon, they settled into a home at Eighteenth & Chemeketa Streets. They would have three children.
Myrtle worked briefly for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill from 1908-1909 before the birth of her first daughter. Then she remained a homemaker. Carl was a butcher and sausage maker.
Myrtle died in Los Angeles, CA on 23 Oct 1930. Her body was brought back to Salem for burial in City View Cemetery. Carl remarried after her death. He died in 1938 and was buried beside Myrtle in City View Cemetery. |
