Nettie Dimeler Colgan worked in the Dye House as a rag picker from July 1896-1898.
Henrietta “Nettie” Margaret Dimeler was born 1 Nov 1875 in Oregon to Ellen [Holt] and Fredrick Dimeler. She was one of six children born to the couple. Her mother was an Irish immigrant; her father German.
She married Edward Reid Colgan in 1899 after his return from the Spanish American War. He served in Company K of the Oregon Volunteer Infantry. The couple lived for a time in Marshfield near Ed’s family, then moved to the Portland area. Ed was a blacksmith, machinist, cabinet maker, mover, general laborer. They were the parents of one child, Helen.
Nettie died at the young age of 52, on 6 July 1928 in Portland, Multnomah, OR of Addison’s disease. She was buried two days later in the Catholic Cemetery (St. Barbara) in Salem. Her husband survived her. He died 27 Apr 1939 in Portland. He was buried in the Spanish American War Veterans section of Riverview Cemetery in Portland. |
