Thomas W. Hall worked for TKWM from 1903 until his death in 1942.
Thomas was born in Hespler, Ontario, Canada on 21 Jul 1870. In 1901, at age 32, he emigrated to the U.S. with his wife Marie and daughter Edna. The family took up residence in Dallas, OR where Thomas found work in a woolen mill. However, after three months, Thomas moved to Marysville, CA where he worked for about a year. It is not clear whether Mary and Edna accompanied him to Marysville but, his next job was back in Salem at TKWM where he was a carder.
Marie passed away in the summer of 1912 and Thomas became a single parent of 14-year-old Edna. In 1920, when Edna was 22, Thomas married widow Mary Jane Myers who was 18 years his junior. Edna lived with her father and stepmother through the mid-1930s.
Thomas continued to work at TKWM becoming a foreman by 1939. Throughout their married life, Thomas and Mary lived at 1596 Ferry Street. Thomas passed away in Sep 1942 at age 72. Sadly, Mary followed Thomas a year later at age 57. They are buried next to each other at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem. |
