Believed to be Albert and Mary Ann Bayless. From St. Paul’s AME Church Photo, State Library of Oregon 2006.001.0705

In partnership with Oregon Black Pioneers and Just Walk Salem Keizer, the Willamette Heritage Center will host a community history walk through downtown Salem on the Juneteenth holiday that will bring to life the stories of longtime Salem residents Albert and Mary Ann Bayless and their family and friends.

The walk will start and end at the Willamette Heritage Center (1313 Mill St SE).  Free parking in the museum’s lot is available.  The full walk spans a three mile loop through downtown Salem and returning to the museum.  Participants interested in a shorter version can turn back after the first stop (the site of Albert and Mary Ann’s home) for a 1.23 mile loop.  Maps will be available on site and digitally on the event webpage for additional accessibility options.
