Collection Overview
This collections spanning at least 1914-1938 contains a wide variety of election cards used by candidates of both the Republican and Democratic Parities for a variety of different positions in Salem, Marion County, and Oregon. Elmer Alexander Daue (1888-1972), from whose family this collection of cards was created, operated a grocery store on south Commercial Street in Salem.  The family also lived in the so called Daue House (1095 Saginaw) — currently the home of Salem’s Assistance League.

The cards, many illustrated with the candidate’s photograph and containing slogans provide an interesting insight into local politics during the early part of the 20th century.
