Interested in old houses?  Worried about the coming big quake and your
house?

The Salem Historic Landmarks Commission is sponsoring a free talk about
working with a preservation contractor and talking about seismic issues
for homes.  The talk will be Tuesday August 21st from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at
Louck’s Auditorium next to the Salem Library.  Steve Gemmell from
Earthquake Tech and Richard DeWolf from Arciform will be speaking.

Mr. Gemmell’s presentation will cover the fundamentals of seismic
construction practices and the requirements for retrofitting homes that
have do not have the necessary connections for enduring earthquakes.

Mr. DeWolf’s presentation will cover how to have a successful
restoration project and will take you through the restoration process
and highlight key components for success.  Starting with a good plan,
accurate architectural plans and a trusted preservation specialist are
some of the essential ingredients.  You will learn how to create a
project plan, set realistic expectations, source appropriate materials,
and develop a contingency plan for unexpected costs and a long-term
maintenance plan.
