Don Antrican worked at TKWM in the weaving dept in the 1950s. His father Edward also worked at the mill.
Donald Edward Antrican Jr. was born 27 June 1932 in Salem, OR to parents Edward D. and Esther A. [Olson] Antrican. He was an only child. He grew up in the rural town of Eola in Polk County, OR. He attended Eola School through 8th grade, then Salem schools and graduated from Salem High School in 1950.
His father Edward Donald Sr. worked for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill from 1932-1941. He left the mill to work on the construction of Camp Adair which was being built in rural Polk County off Hwy 99W. Then he enlisted in the military and served in World War II.
After his safe return the Antrican family moved to the Pringle area of South Salem where they raised and sold cattle. Mother Esther worked as a cook for the Fairview Hospital and father Ed also worked for the Salem Sand & Gravel Co. as a laborer and truck driver.
After graduation from high school, Don Jr. Joined the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He served as a private, first class. On his return, he worked briefly at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill, then became a meat cutter.
Don Jr. was married four times throughout the course of his life and fathered two children. He married Marlene Wagner at the age of 20, on 23 Mar 1953 in Salem. They divorced prior to his second marriage on 22 Oct 1960, to Mary E. Rankin in Skamania County, WA. They were divorced in 1965. One child was produced by this marriage. At the time of divorce, Don lived in Foley Lake Trailer Court in The Dalles, OR. He remarried a third time on 17 Jun 1966 to Judy Marie Blair in Salem, OR. They were divorced three years later. His second child was produced by this marriage. He married one final time, to Marilyn Whitson, on 2 Feb 1974 in Salem, OR.
Don died 4 March 2011 in Salem, OR. He was buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. |
