Section Houses on Mill Street, 1943. Oregon Department of Transportation Photo.

The west side of the WHC’s parking lot once belonged to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company.  Facing Mill Street stood Section Houses — housing for railroad workers and their families.  Today a interpretive sign stands approximately where the houses stood.  Facing the railroad tracks and 12th Street were a series of sheds, used by the railroad for housing track maintenance equipment.
