Story  Janet Burton worked at TKWM from about 1924 until about 1945 as a binder, seamstress, machine operator and foreman.

Janet M E LeRoy was born in Canada in July 1876 and emigrated to the U.S. when she was just six years old.  Her family settled in North Dakota.  In 1894, when she was 18 years old, she married 30-year-old Perry H. Burton who had recently been discharged from the Army.  By 1895 the couple lived in Fargo, ND where Perry worked as a carpenter.

We lose track of the family until 1910 when we find Perry and Janet in Salem with four children.  Perry is still working as a carpenter and Janet is tending to the house and children.  They add one more son in 1921.  However, by time he was born, Perry had moved to John Day with their 17-year-old son Hockley.  They may have been in search of steady of work.  Perry never returned to Janet and by 1924, she was working at TKWM to support her several children.  By 1930, Janet claimed to be divorced.

In 1926, Perry traveled to Hawaii but eventually settled in Los Angeles, CA.  He passed away in 1931 and was returned to Salem for burial.  After 1931, Janet claimed to be a widow.

Janet stayed with TKWM for more than 20 years beginning as a binder and working her way up to foreman.  She retired shortly after 1945, staying in Salem for about ten years.  However, we lose track of her after 1955.  She passed away on 25 Sep 1968 at age 92 in Washington County, Oregon and is buried at Belcrest Memorial Park, Salem.
